I have user account control disabled, and it still wouldn't let me change the time, because it wouldn't read the list boxes, or what ever they are called, spin boxes I think, where you change the time. That other program read it though. Big grin! We're not mentioning any names here. I'm sure this will be fixed soon. Thanks and let us know when your podcast is ready. I'm anxiously awaiting it! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joseph Lee" <joseph.lee22590@xxxxxxxxxxxx>

Hi Kimberly and list,I also use Vista with JAWS 8.0.1163. The reason why JAWS will not read fields on certain applications is that by default Vista uses what's called UAC (User Account Control). This is used to block access to key system areas from users, such as changing date/time, installing hardware or software, and other similar operations that require administrator rights. You can easily disable UAC (which is what I've done). I'm currently working on a podcast for Blind Cool Tech on using Windows Vista for the first time. In this podcast, I'll talk about new features in Windows Vista and tips and tricks that you should know. For about 90% of the podcast, I'll use JAWS, but for some segments I'll use Window-Eyes. (I'd guess that this is not a good topic to discuss here, so if anyone has any comments, please write to me off list)Cheers, Joseph----- Original Message ----- From: "Kimberly thurman"<kimberlythurman@xxxxxxxxxxxxxTo: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Date sent: Tue, 13 Mar 2007 15:34:15 -0400 Subject: Re: VistaHi Shawn. I am using it. I got a newlaptop, which had Vista, and didn'thave a choice. I am using JAWS beta and theWindow Eyes beta also. JAWSstill definitely has its problems. I neededto change the time on it, andwhen I went to date/time in control panel,JAWS wouldn't read the fields tochange it. I had to switch to the WindowEyes beta, which did just fine. You also have to disable what is called UserAccount Control before JAWSwill work. There are instructions on how todo this in the JFW website. Itwork fairly well on most things I've tried itwith so far, but there aredefinite glitches. Another example is a siteI go to to pay bills wouldn'tread all the list boxes in edit mode, so Ihad to go do it on my computerwith XP.My advice is to get Vista to play with, andkeep XP to work with, and thenmove to Vista gradually as they work out thebugs. hthAnybody else who is using Vista, please speakup on here as well. Doesanybody know if there is a list dedicated toVista only for JAWS users? Thanks and have a nice day!----- OriginalMessage -----From: "Shawn Keen" <dkeen@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, March 13, 2007 1:17 PM Subject: VistaWell, Is anyone using it yet?
