There are two Word commands that will help you.CTRL-SHIFT-PERIOD and CTRL-SHIFT-COMMA increase and decrease the font size by two points.CTRL-SHIFT-RIGHT BRACKET and CTRL-SHIFT-LEFT BRACKET increase and decrease the font by one point.CathyAnne -----Original Message----- From: William L. Is there a faster way to increase the size of a font? --Bill----- Original Message ----- From: "Dave Carlson" <dgcarlson@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, January 04, 2010 6:53 AM Subject: Re: Open officeBill,I like your approach, and am sure you'll "get it" sooner than you think. Alot of what I found was just remembering "where the widget went that I need to click on" to do what I want. Almost like MS just arbitrarily scrambled the menus around a bit, to mess with our minds. Rather than that Teddy Bear, give yourself a gumdrop every time you successfully locate the dialog you need on the ribbon. When you've gained an extra 10 pounds, you'll be a ribbon expert in a new pants size. And we can both sit in awe of Cy, the Anasazi, our aged seer -- oh great one! I'm getting a new Dell tower and it's coming loaded with Worx Plus 2008, which supposedly has a version of Word with the comfy cozy menues. But that's just what they told me over the phone, and the rest of the order has involved an extensive tour of Dell's Indian customer service, half of whom doesn't know what the other half has told you. So who knows what's true at this point, LOL? In the meantime, I've downloaded the Office 2007 training module from FS and am trying to imagine a world without menues. Can someone give me a teddy bear? --Bill----- Original Message ----- From: "Dave Carlson" <dgcarlson@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, January 04, 2010 6:04 AM Subject: Re: Open officeBill,I know your pain -- I've been using MS-Word even longer than that, so the crossover was initially painful. And you're just a bit older than my son,so talk about being set in my ways... I also considered the add-on menu tool for a while, but heard (did not experience) that they are not easy to use, like real menus. Perhaps someone on this list can chime in. But throw me a bone here, people. A guy gets to kvetch just a little bit before giving in, doesnt he? I'll definitely look up the FS training module you mention: thanks. --Bill ------- Original Message ----- From: "Dave Carlson" <dgcarlson@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, January 03, 2010 5:00 PM Subject: Re: Open officeLong ago on this very list, I was complaining about FS changing the options dialog and the order of items. A subscriber to this list (who I haven't heard from in a long time) told me to "stop whining and just deal with it". I applied the same philosophy to the Ribbon, and have learned to use itquite well. If you have to learn something to do your job, you generallydo. It's amazing how well we humans can adapt when we just put our minds to it. Complaining doesn't help in the learning process, from what I've experienced. And I believe that there is a training module on the FS web site on the MS ribbon and how to use it. Until something is actually released, I don't know what to believe. --Bill----- Original Message ----- From: "Daniel McGee" <mc-g@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, January 03, 2010 8:55 AM Subject: Re: Open officeHi Bill, and others! That sounds great does anyone know how you would change it back the normal way instead of using the damn ribbons? Anotherthing I might add is that I went blind when I was 16 and now I am 20 so before office 2007 came out I had a visural idea of whow the normal wayof office looked like and when I lost my sight and was tought to learn with Jaws. Now I just get compuse. Just out of cureiousoty if someone on this list had sight could they explain visualy what the ribbons look like? It might help me. Many Thanks P..s I had an idea maybe if fs could do a kind of webpage in the help topics of Jaws with microsoft office apps kind of like what's changed and what verious things are in catorgies For example if I remember right before 2007 to change the file size you would go to the format option godown arrow once find font hit enter on that tab twice and then you findthe file size then change it to whatever you want and then hit enter. Oh not forgetting you have to highlight what you want 1st. And another example is thing wear you find out how many pages you are on your document how many words etc it wa some wear in tools I think again in 2003. But in office 2007 I haven't got a clue! -------------------------------------------------- From: "Chris Smart" <chris_s@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, January 03, 2010 4:28 PM To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: Open officeHi Bill.
