jim first of all i never said any thing about changing safe mode as it
presently is, but some how you got that idea.

i do not want them to change the present safe mode at all.

so your arguement that it would ruin the present safe mode is with out
foundation.

their are already 2 safe mode options, the second one including the network
driver and that network option does not change the safe mode with out the
network driver.

a third option that i suggested designed for the blind would load the sound
card driver and hence give us access.

not effecting the safe mode sighted folks use.

about the other drivers being crucial.

never have i had a conflict between a piece of hard ware and a com port driver.

any piece of hard ware designed that conflicts withc com port drivers will
not exist in the market place for a very long time.

because 90 percent of all computers have them.

same is true of hardware conflicting with the u s b support.

so its doubtful that including those 2 drivers to all safe modes would
have very little bearing for any user.

still to be extra cautious i am only suggesting com port and u s b support
would only be added to the version of safe mode for the blind.

at least that is what i suggested in my earlier post.

not effecting any option that sited users use in their safe mode.

oh jim your correct, creative and many companies do not include those drivers.

but not because they do not want to.

most companies want their end users to have the latest drivers.

thats why their offerred for free on the creative site.

many of the drivers not included in the o s are available under windows update.

ever ask your self why that is?

because micro suck wants a fee to include those drivers on the x p cd rom.

so the reason is not because creative does not want their end users to have
the best experience they can, but because many companies bulk and refuse to
pay the fee to micro soft.

so x p really is not very good at providing up to date drivers on the cd rom.

to illustrate this point one need only examine the number of sound card
lines that creative has released since then.
not models, but whole lines.

audigy 1.
audigy 2. with 6.1

audigy 2 with 7.1.

now the brand new line based on the x5 processor.

so the 5.1 line included on the cd rom is about 5 years old.

so if m s was serious about access they would wave the fee for sound cards.

thanks for the info on the process used on the site and what they do for
installing the o s.

have to admit i am a little confused as to how it works.

how can the computer see the floppy if it does not contain dos.

the floppy is not big enough for windows.

so leaves me a little confused.

still this is far cry from creating a boot disk like the boot disk created
in dos.

its possible to create a windows boot disk that has the current set up, but
m s prevents it.

what you end up with is a reinstall that is any thing but current.

then you have to repatch.
reinstall and ever thing else.

even with slip streaming you end up patching.

not sure why you say the instructions for adding a driver seem simple, and
to be honest those instructions are any thing but simple.

he includes the instructions for slip streaming them and uses nero to add
them to the cd rom.

must be 30 steps.

not sure how many of these relate to adding the driver versus slip streaming.

their not up to date either, he is slip streaming service pack 1 while
service pack 2 is already out.

thats another bone of contention for me.

why doesn't m s just send registerred users of the o s a copy of the cd
with service pack 2 already slip streemed into it for a nominal cost to
cover shipping.

before anybody says they already do, i am not talking about the service
pack 2 buy it self but the entire o s with the service pack 2 included on
the install cd.
