yes, I did. I'm so glad you understand. Thank you very much. I'm seeking
treatment for how to deal with situations like this. I am very upset now but
pretty soon my medications will kick in. God bless you and keep you, my
gentle and perspective friend.

Well sir it's messages exactly like this one that lead us all to think you
are about to go off the deep end or something. This seems to be a regular
thing with you too. I know it's not just me because others here say the
samething after some of your rants on here about this and that, that trips
your trigger or something. I made a very simple statement and you've nearly
freaked out over it. Did you perhaps use LSD in the 60's or something?

I swear to God I'm smiling as I type this, but I don't get what all this is about worries. I wrote and asked if there was some problem with the updater,
got a couple of nice honest replies, said thank you and made a couple of
gentle wisecracks about people getting all whacked out about this issue, and since then it's been nothing but advice to chill, as if I'd ranted on about something and said I was tearing my hair out about it. I'm just not sure why people tell you how to feel when they don't know how you feel and it's just
kind of weird, so I say don't worry, and there we go again.

Never mind, okay? I'll just go take a couple of Valium and meditate on all
this. Ack. :-) In fact, it's almost dinnertime here on the West coast.
Maybe I'll just mix myself a stiff Martini and take a mental vacation. From what, I'm not sure. But I'll be okay. Honest I will. Okay, now I'm laughing
out loud, myself. By-bye!
Coiast.

worries. You have enough worries for all of us here.

Bruce,

Yes. Not to mention that a hard-hitting investigative effort by someone on
another list has revealed that FS deliberately releases updates for each
version that are programmed to damage it beyond repair, in order to justify
their coming out with the next paid or SMA release a few months later. Not
everyone agrees with this theory, but it reflects some of the stress people
feel about the unseen machinations of the FS Death Star.

What a world, what a world. I'm melting....

Robert,

Well, if that's what accounts for the smaller file size, and that's
essentially the difference, it makes perfect sense to use the update

disregard
this convenience and scurry about every time there's an update discussing
where to find the file and how to download it. Just don't get it. But I
explained that in another recent message.

Thanks again.

Believe it is slightly smaller than the full .exe download.

Remember when you download the file from fs windows installer opens
during
install. Using jaws update this part of the installation is bypassed. It
just installs it using your current settings.

So that is how it is treated as an update.

Robert,

I haven't checked file sizes so I must ask you. Are you saying that what
the
update method installed for you appeared to be the exact size of the full
program? Or is that number showing that it's only a smaller file than the
full program?
Thanks.

Hello

Well just on the last update, I used the update feature and the file size
it
downloaded was 58 mega bytes

So the only thing I know is that using this method gets you out of using
the
windows installer interface.

Other than that I don't know of any other difference.

As a new update to Jaws 9 has been released, I'm going to install it. I
know
how to do this both of the ways I mention in the subject line.

However, I have never understood exactly how the two methods differ, aside from the actions you take to do them. Naturally, even though I know how to
go to the Jaws Central area of the FS site and find the latest update
file,
and then run it as an install process myself, I'm attractted to the
simplified, easier method of just using the update feature on the Help
menu.

But there are always discussions on these mailing lists that make it sound
as if the two methods are substantively different, and there seem to be
;jurists who believe that using the update feature is a halfway measure
that
may not properly modify your existing copy of Jaws, and may cause
problems.
These people seem to believe that the only right and safe way to do an
update is to download the latest file from FS, which is a complete
replacement for the program, I think, and install it yourself.

Could anyone explain the origin of this disagreement, and shed some
practical light on the topic? As I said, if I were sure that using the
update feature were really responsible and safe, I'd certainly prefer it
to
having to go to FS, download the huge file and then go through an install
wizard procedure.

teaksThanks.
