Webjames is a web server that runs on RISC OS which gives me some idea of what speeds can be achieved for a http connection between a webbrowser and web server on the local network, and shows there is no intrinsic limit of 350KB/s Given a sufficiently fast broad connection (cable or ADSL2) it should be possible to match or exceed that transfer rate.
but when it comes to downloading data across a home network, my Iyonix just copied 18,6 MB from a Windows computer in just under 3 seconds, using LanMan98. That's more than 3 MB/s. But probably, one can't compare these two matters.
Using a webserver, particularly on RISC OS, will be a slower than using a file sharing protocol between machines on the local network,.
Anyhow, apparently none of the servers that I download from use WebJames.
They'll be using something a lot faster. Cheers ---David -- Email: druck@xxxxxxxxxxxx Phone: +44-(0)7974 108301 ---To alter your preferences or leave the group, visit //www.freelists.org/list/iyonix-support
