Then there is something far wrong with your dns in that case, there should be no interruption just by clearing out the cache. Where does dhcp come into the equation?? I forced an update of the DNS, and after it replicated (takes awhile), they started working again. I'm afraid of clearing the cache, as whenever I do that manually it pretty much wipes out all client activity domain-wide until the DHCP server puts the entries back into the DNS tables. This is entirely too fragile, so I'm going to have to do something soon. The haggis is unusual in that it is neither consistently nocturnal nor diurnal, but instead is active at dawn and dusk (crepuscular), with occasional forays forth during the day and night.
