This guy's point seems to be more suited to "across kernel versions" -
which you dismiss as you dont use "unstable upstream versions" and stick
to the RHEL kernel which backports stuff onto a single kernel version.
It is a packaging issue. And you're approaching it from different
directions entirely, refusing to believe either of you is right. Apples
to Oranges comparison ..
