Simple users like myself often don't know the ABCs of writing Device 
drivers. We expect them to be shipped on CDs or to work off the box.


Also, I dont see why people seem to moan and groan about driver support 
in Linux anymore. eg. OSX supports a very small subset of devices that 
Linux does - how many times do you see people on OSX complain about such 
things ? 

OSX is meant to run on a mac and a mac _only_. The amount of hardware 
that they need to support is limited to what they ship on their mac. 
Apple would not provide support, if you were to install a modded version 
of OSX on your PC.
