Hi Gary,

If they have control of the screen/mouse etc. couldn't they save the design
file off somewhere? Reviewing a complex PCB is many hours...and I doubt
someone is going to sit there and watch someone do that for hours...

If the control is application specific, and not control of the desktop, and
the program (Allegro Viewer?) doesn't have a save capability (does it? I
don't remember), that could work.

Regards,

Austin

  Peter,

This sounds like your best solution. We've used NetMeeting in this regard.
You fire up the board, then allow the other person to have control of the
mouse.

He can check out anything in the design he wants, and you can see exactly
what he's doing. He doesn't have the database, you do.

  Good luck,

  Gary

You could always use one of those "Go to my PC" type viewers. This allows
you someone at a remote location to view your PC screen and move your mouse.
This would allow them to query items, measure, and view constraints, without
providing them the actual database. Caveat being you have to be online with
them while they review the layout.

  Good luck.

  Hi Peter,

But...if he can access the file (as he would have to do if viewing it
remotely) then he can copy it. Right?

I think your only choice is really printouts or PDF of each layer etc.
Or, OBD...why not just output an ODB++ file for him to review?

  Austin

He can then use the database and build it somewhere else. I am trying to
protect IP. They have Allegro. Hard to explain on here, but I need to keep
the data in our hands.

    Peter,

So if your customer is only going to be using the viewer? send him the
.brd file. He can't change anything with the viewer anyway, it's only a copy
you still have master data? I don't see the problem or need for remote
access?

Subject: [PCB_FORUM] Remote Allegro file viewing

I need to be able to have a customer look at a BRD file without having
possession of the file itself. As at least some of you know the password
protection in Allegro is useless. My customer wants more than PDF files and
I need to protect the data. I want the customer to be able to remotely
access the file and be able to at least use the commands of the free viewer.
Does anyone already have a solution or any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Peter
