Come to think of it, that seems a bit of a misstep (though it goes way back,
I guess). I don't see any need for the launch loop to be in the user script;
it's a fixed action, so it should be in the system BootScript. In the old
(BeOS)
days, the user script was completely free (and didn't even exist by default).
That would create some other problems:
- When we go multiuser, the user boot script will run under the logged in
user's context. The system boot script will not
- I think it is possible to disable the user boot script from the boot menu, in
case you broke everything there and want a "fail safe" mode to recover the
system
This is why the user boot script must takes care of all things "user". You are
completely free to put your things in the "launch" folder, however, which I
think is better than a single script for managing your customizations.
