For the adventurous,

I have made some updates to the notification_server as documented in the
following ticket:
https://dev.haiku-os.org/ticket/12809

Thought I'd give it a quick check, but I can't get action from it.
If I run it I see the icon in the Deskbar but 'notify' doesn't show
anything.  (If I remove it again and restart the system one, things
still don't work.  Have to reboot.)

You will probably need to remove the mime entry for the current
notification server and then run the new server for Haiku to re-register
the new location to find the server binary (this is important because I
have added a Deskbar replicant).
Can't do that, because the entry is in ..system/data/mime_db!
However, I think the entry that gets generated in config/settings/mime_db
should override that, right?
                                                       Alternatively you can
blacklist the
system's notification_server and run the new one.
Didn't try that...

I assume it's irrelevant where the executable is run from?  Can't put
it in the system area, and there's no "non-packaged/servers", so I
just ran it from ~/Downloads.  (Maybe it's OK to create that folder?)
