Yes, you're probably right, i just hope we won't go on the over- translating route, like the so called official french linguists decided we were supposed to use "Mèl" and "Cédérom", which are just making me want to puke when i see them :D ...and more importantly are counter productive. Multimédia is nice but also covers text and more.. "Serveur Audio- Vidéo"?
Actually, it's Courriel, and Mel. can be used as an abbreviation, as Tel. for Téléphone. But well, not any better :) As for Cédérom, yes, it's plain wrong, not even a translation (should be "Disque Compact Mémoire à Écriture Unique" or DC-Méu... sounds fun)
As for multimedia... well media includes a lot more things than just sound and video, and still works fine for the english version, right ?
