Yes, Charles, I can see that's what's happening and it all seems a bit of a mess and something that really needs to be tidied up, together with the maps in general concerning the mis-location of so many places.

Thanks anyway for your comments here. They're appreciated.

Hi Carol,
This sounds like a data inconsistency issue with TeleAtlas actually.
Here is what I think is happening which is why choosing either
Reading or Reading England seem to work.

Lets say "Birch Street" between 1st Street and 2nd Street is just
listed as in "Reading" and "Birch Street" between 2nd Street and 3rd
Street as "Reading England"
When I go and build the list of streets for the cities "Birch Street"
falls in "Reading" and "Reading England", so it doesn't matter which
you choose but when you choose an address I start searching in the
city you chose and continue down the street until I find the address
or the city doesn't match, but in this case the city is still really
"Reading" just in some places it also has the Country added in.

But if a street only shows up in one or the other then if you choose
the other you may not find it. So it all boils down to a data
inconsistency issue with TeleAtlas I believe.

I hope that explains the behavior you are seeing.

Charles

Coventry is indeed in the Midlands - and that's one place that's
right. One of the things I've found really odd recently is to try to work
out the difference between Reading and Reading, England. It seems I
can use either one of those two options to find the same addresses!

Charles, if you're reading this, what are your thoughts?

Mary Ellen, what do you mean about keying in those long
addresses? What do you put in when searching then? We certainly
will be so glad when Post Codes are introduced for that
reason. Every other GPS system used here in the UK seems to work on
Post Codes, which is hardly surprising. ...

Well for examply I had the idea Coventry was almost on the border of
England and Scotland, and yet it is in the Wales Middling Section.
Anyway it was just a blast with these maps. I don't know how you key
in all those long addresses, My goodness!
But I spose our maps are just as confusing to you too.
Now my trip seems real, and not something on a piece of paper.
Take care!

I'm afraid for some of us the maps are sort of pretty "dumb" when it
comes to knowing where to find various towns and they're not where
you expect at all.

Yes, it does, thank you. I actually took my old Braille Note mpower
out and felt my way through it and was able to sort of feel my way
through how these different regions are mapped out.
What fun it has been to find the hotel where we stayed in 1965, and
find how to get to the Palace from there, just over a half mile as
it turned out.
Thanks so much, Carol.

Well, it's pretty strange, even as I see it, but many of these
places come in the Wales/Midlands maps.

Hope that helps enough.

Hi!
I am coming to your wonderful country in October, in the meantime,
have downloaded the maps for the U. K, and amd having a terrible
time in the address lookup going from the default region which I
put in as Southern England to other regions. The normal precedure
isn't working and I don't know enough about what is on these maps
to be able to write out what I want.
Where do I write the city of Bath?
Thanks.
