MessageEven if you got something like the MOTU 2408 with the mkII interface,
you would still probably need a mixer. As Kevin said, the mkII is a breakout
box with 8 analogue inputs and outputs, plus 24 digital inputs and outputs.
You plug the mkII interface into the 2408, which is a PCI card.

The MOTU 828, is a firewire breakout box, that has 2 mike preamps, plus 8
analogue and another 8 digital inputs and outputs. That would give you 10
analogue inputs and outputs, plus another 8 digital.

In other words, the MOTU mkII interface, would be similar to the MOTU 828 but,
you need a PCI card to use the mkII where as, the MOTU 828, plugs straight into
a firewire port and therefore, doesn't require a PCI card.

  Hi, all

Thanks for all your answers. However, I'm still confused.

The seller says this is not the mkII interface as it's four years old. What
does this mean, then. Would I need an additional mixer or not?

  Thanks for your continued clarification.

  Cheers

  Kylee

the MOTU 2408MKII is not the same product as the 828. The 828 was the
later generation of produc. Phil's box has nothing to do with firewire. I
don't think the 828 series used PCI cards. All you should need is an open
firewire port. Check MOTU.com for product details and specifications.

Ah, Okay. I guess it's then a question of whether this person has the
breakout box.

      Thanks again.

That's the name of the breakout box that ships with the MOTU 2408.

          Thanks Phil.

Please forgive my ignorance. What is the mkII please? The ad
doesn't mention mkII so I guess I need to know if that's important.

          Thanks for your help.

          Cheers

MOTU gear is excellent. I use a MOTU 2408 with the mkII interface
here. Go for it!

              Hi, all

I have a feeling one or two of you might be familiar with this
card. They're hard to come by in this part of the world, but I've seen a good
second-hand one and I'm wondering about its use. What is it like? Does it
have a break-out box or is it for a rack? What about accessibility of control
panel etc? The seller is selling on behalf of someone else and has not used
it. As I say, it's not something people in NZ are particularly familiar with
it unless they're really keen as there's no distributor here.

any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

              Cheers

              Kylee
