The MKII and MKIII needed PCI cards. the card was called a PCI324 or 424 card. You need neither of these because the 828 connects directly to your firewire 400 port. The presence or absence of an interface card has no relationship to the need for a mixer. If you have headphones or powered speakers, you won't need a mixer. If your speakers are not powered, you will ened a mixer. what speakers do you have? do you currently use a mixer with them? However, I'm still confused. The seller says this is not the mkII interface as it's four years old. What does this mean, then. Would I need an additional mixer or not? Thanks for your continued clarification. Cheers Kylee ----- Original Message ----- From: Kevin L. The 828 was the later generation of produc. Phil's box has nothing to do with firewire. I don't think the 828 series used PCI cards. All you should need is an open firewire port. Check MOTU.com for product details and specifications. I guess it's then a question of whether this person has the breakout box. Thanks again. Please forgive my ignorance. What is the mkII please? The ad doesn't mention mkII so I guess I need to know if that's important. Thanks for your help. They're hard to come by in this part of the world, but I've seen a good second-hand one and I'm wondering about its use. What is it like? Does it have a break-out box or is it for a rack? What about accessibility of control panel etc? The seller is selling on behalf of someone else and has not used it. As I say, it's not something people in NZ are particularly familiar with it unless they're really keen as there's no distributor here. any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.
