Dave:
do you have a keyboard that is only a midi controller or does it have sounds in it? If you don't have a dedicated midi interface and your keyboard has usb, you would need to most likely install its drivers and connect it. If you only want to record audio in Sonar, you wouldn't need any midi devices at all.

Subject: [ddots-l] A SUPER BEGINNER Question

Ok, I've owned this software for freaking EVER, and keep shying away
from using it 'cause I have some weird mental block. But now my wife
wants results from all the dough I've sunk into this stuff.

I'm using Sonar 5.2 with the appropriate CakeTalking scripts. When I
load Sonar 5, I get a message saying I don't have any MIDI device
chosen. I assume this would be the keyboard which is indeed not hooked
up yet. I have a cable that will let me hook up the keyboard via USB.
Does it have to be connected for me to choose a MIDI device? Couldn't I
just plug the keyboard in using a quarter inch plug through the mixer?
But then how would I choose a MIDI device?

HELP!
Dave
