Presumably you could start changing the Alias$... when the buttons in DPScan are clicked.

These days we're used to systems like Windows having system wide dialogues to control which apps load which files.

Another way of doing it would be for DPScan to look if Alias$... for a given type is set to point to itself - if not ignore the request to load the file.

So one could do better - at the time, change settings and do a reboot seemed good enough. I think I set off doing this sort of thing the previous year with SparkFS.
