it's a marketing gag and eyewasher in the very most cases. Even the best ADCs
are not able to catch anything beyond 20bit and 16 bit allows a dynamic range
far from anything audible. really higher dynamic ranges just makes sense if
you record suboptimal with very low levels and process further (i.e., in
studios), but here and in most consumer scenarios this makes no sense.
MP3 was defined to save bandwidth by wasting frequencies etc. the human is not
hearing. Why then allow a huge amount of bits not holding any useful
information in the specs, making decoders more complicated?
I assume just switch to 16 bit in the darkice dconfig should do it...
