That will always be the between a rock and a hard place situation. I build my own, and it usually end up costing a LOT more than a put together system most of the time, but those put together systems usually mean, onboard video, two or three pci slots, 128-512mb ram and so forth. Oh, can't forget the 40-80gb hard drive! :-P In theory mind you, my present (main) computer: AMD64 x2 3800+ (dual core) 2gb Dual Channel RAM ATI/ Radeon X1300 256mb pci-e Video Card 1 200gb sata hd 1 250gb sata hd 2 320gb sata hd's 1 cd-burner 1 dvd-rom 1 dvd-burner This system "should" be able to run Vista. According to system requirements from M$. We will see REAL soon. Hopefully this week I'll be getting Vista. Not sure which flavor though. (It's a gift from someone) I will be doing a full, clean install. Upgrading XP to vista seems to take at the very least TWO hours from most accounts. :-O On Mon, 5 Mar 2007 05:34:06 -0800 (PST), Ray Roney <qix_68@xxxxxxxxx> took time to say the following: > The cost of the individual parts is what's holding me back, really. > > I can spend $400 and buy the parts I want (Case, MB, CPU, RAM, VidCard) or I > can spend $400 and get a whole new system INCLUDING a new HD (250GB SATA). > > It just made some sense to me...but now that Vista is out, i'm rethinking > that idea too. > > We'll see what happens...it just makes me ill regardless. > > Thanks for the input...and any other ideas you all have. :) > > -- Ray -- > > > "You Can See How Spoiled A Society Is...By What It Throws Away." -- Lynn > Johnston > > > ----- Original Message ---- > From: Charles R.
