Hard cards aren't that old or that fabulous (oversized board for the
controller so that a drive can mount directly to it) - I have 4 or 5
machines with hard cards in them including my NEC 286 portable.

Now try and set up an MFM, RLL or ESDI drive - betcha hardly even heard of
these. RAM is good too when you install it one DIP DRAM at a time, into the
sockets. My 8088 and 80286 based machines have these. Fun comes trying to
figure out which one is bad.

Full height drive it's called, CD-ROM drives are half-height. Back then
I ran a BBS off a rickety old 386sx. The thing had 8 30-pin SIMM slots
and a grand total of 2Megs RAM, with all the slots filled. I had two
single-spin CD-ROM drives(Real Sony CDU-53's). It had a 120Meg disk
partitioned in half. I ran PCBoard on that thing.

Do you remember hard cards?

I'm 20 years old, and I tell you, it's a bad sign when a person my age
reminisces about the "good old days".
