Also, lots of schools do some of there work online. If she got an Apex, she would be able to do her online school work better, because the Apex has more ram then the mPower, so it would not crash as much when trying to load webpages and stuff. As a person who has had experience with using both an mPower and an Apex in a school setting, I can say the Apex made me more productive. I spent less time resetting it and more time working. The mPower would always crash and I would have to reset it. Often times I would lose work I could not save before the reset and would have to redo it. This happens way less with the Apex.

Before that, I used an MPower. Honestly, I think upgrading to the Apex is well worth $7,000. Not only is it smaller than the MPower, there are
more slots available for external disks USB, SD card). Because Ireceive all of my schoolwork electronically on memory sticks, having the extra ports makes it easier to access my assignments. Also, you can pair the Apex with another device (PC, IOS device) and work easily
between both of them. We the taxpayers all contribute to a fund, and that has to divided between all those students who are blind. 혻In our state, that does not include technology like a laptop, ipad, or notetaker. 혻If someone has been generous enough to provide you with technology, be grateful, 혻Now with that said, is having something easier, worth $7,000 dollars in a district where over half the students cannot afford to pay for their own lunches. 혻Or is the scrolling wheel, scrolling the weight of the BN, things that a student could deal with for the time being? If you had to make the
choice? Would you pay $7,000 for those conveniences?혻 Thanks for your input. On Tue, Nov 26, 2013 at 9:21 AM, <pianogirlforlife7@xxxxxxxxx>

It makes it easy to take notes and I think it has more memory then the
MPower. I thought the state pays for machinary and other things for the visually impared? ----- Original Message ----- From: Linda Russell <russellli00@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To: braillenote@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Date sent: Tue, 26 Nov 2013 08:08:11 -0500 Subject: [BNU] Empower vs apexI have a 14 year old student who has had an empower for about 5 years.
혻She has seen/used the apex at a visit to the school for the blind and naturallywants the latest and greatest. 혻(Don't we all!) but her family does not contribute anything to her technology needs, and the school is strapped
for money.(Another obvious fact.) What are some opinions on the need to up grade
toan Apex or continue to use the empower for this student- She is fully included in the regular ed curriculum. 혻average intelligence, sense of entitlement, little appreciation for all that is provided for her to
access the curriculum. I need to provide input to my supervisor. Thank you in advance for your help.
