Hi, Nicki. Actually, I found my Canon to be much faster than my older HP SCSI scanner, and it's much quieter. The LIde 70 can scan a page in roughly 9 seconds, though it does take another 15 seconds for the light bar to return to the top of the page. 24 seconds total would make me happy. Lsmile) I have the 30 which is slightly slower because it's around four years old. One feature I really appreciate about my Canon is that it's so light that I can easily hook it up to my laptop and just as easily hook it to my desktop again. I can take my laptop and scanner and sit outside or hang out with my daughter while she's watching tv. I never thought scanners would get to the point of being portable without sacrificing quality and actually thought the salesman had scammed me when I got the package and first took the scanner out of the box. I was sure it would be a piece of junk because I was used to the older HP scanners that weighed around 30 pounds. I was sure I'd made a terrible mistake when I didn't see a power cord. I was pleasantly surprised when I hooked it up because the scanner uses high-speed USB 2.0 if your computer has it. It will work with an older 1.0 port if that's what you have though. Since your husband is sighted, he may appreciate the fact that the Canon scans photos well and has some decent photo touch-up software. You can also use the Canon software and your printer to turn the scanner into a copy machine. If you go with the Canon and have any questions, feel free to email me or post to the list. Either way, I hope you get something you really like. Happy scanning.

Thanks, Monica. Merv saw the 70. His only concern had been that with it
working directly off the USB, it might be slower or make my computer slower,
but from what you are saying, that doesn't happen, so I may just go with
that. It looked like a really good scanner. I have OpenBook 7.02, which I
think is the latest version.

Have a blessed day,

Nicki
