But the BP is not a personal organizer and many of us don't want it to become one, since turning it into one is going to cost money and personnel resources that could better be used to improve its function as a reading device.

No, don't think it needs email, or a radio, just basic functions that would
allow it to be a book reader and a personal organizer with basics like a
calculator with basic functions (not a scientific calculator), and an
address book. The kind of unit a person could use for basic independance
needs. If you want a PDA there are lots of choices, but the choices for a
good personal organizer aren't that great.
