Yes, in the case of the book I'm doing I think the author just wanted to have tables for the sake of looking authoritative or something. They add nothing. G. Cindy was kind enough to send me an off-list email with good instructions about how to read through a table so that it makes sense in sentences. In the case of this book, however, I am making an editorial decision not to bother with the tables. As you said, Bob, they don't add a thing. The only purpose I see for tables is to present data in a tabular manner, such as calendars, charts etc. Even then, it looks like the bookshare tools destroys them anyway. Sometimes tables are used to make information stand out in a book. In Braille and speech they don't stand out, they just look strange. Just my thoughts.
