Hi all,

Shannon is right in that some people can be insulted easily. It's hard to know what would be insulting and what would not be. Email is such a horrible medium for conveying the nuances of meaning. Look at my recent miscommunication.

Only solution I can offer is that you continue to be you, but that if something you say is misconstrued, then try your best to make amends. After all, in communication, it doesn't matter what you said, what you meant, or what you thought you meant. What matters is how the recipient of the communication received what you sent.

That's why, in my recent go-round with email, I tried my best to clarify what I meant and said that I hadn't intended to be appalling or nasty, even though my post came across that way, apparently.

Sometimes folks get insulted because of baggage they're carrying around with them. Unfortunately, if we don't know them well, we have no opportunity to examine the luggage truck to determine what package might explode when we offer an opinion. <smiling> It's a shame folks misconstrue things and figure nobody wants their help and they leave. I would erge anyone who ever gets feeling like that to ask yourself one question. Is this going to matter a month from now? If the answer is no, then you've got a pretty good recipe for increasing self esteme and learning to laugh at your mistakes. There are huge, horrible things that happen in life that cannot be smoothed over. Learning to distinguish the difference is growing. It's a painful process, believe me, but it is worth it in the end.
