We counted 48 species here, this weekend.  We added a first-of-year Catbird and 
Swainson’s Thrush, in the pond thicket, and counted a Kingfisher for only the 
second time this year.  We had a smattering of FOS Warblers through the week, 
but a Common Yellowthroat was the only one we could find this weekend.  
The local Kingbirds seem to have departed and the swarms of assorted Swallows 
(of a month ago) have thinned drastically.  We haven’t seen a Meadowlark or 
Grackle, here, in weeks.  We did have around 18 Tree Swallows (which have been 
scarce since the end of nesting) briefly checking out one of our nest boxes, 
yesterday morning.  It was as though they were reminiscing about their 
younger…weeks.  eBird objected when I added a Cliff Swallow that I found 
preening with the Rough-wings, Barns and Trees, on the wire to the west if the 
house, this morning.
This was the first evening in several weeks that I could not count at least one 
Nighthawk.  Will this persistent dry heat ever end?
