We counted 49 species this weekend, including 6 Woodpecker, 8 Sparrow and 2
Warbler species.  The Clay-colored Sparrow’s reappearance was a highlight, as
were eight Harriers in view at once, about 20 minutes before sunset, today.
There were at least 6 Savannah Sparrows here today, which is, by far, the most
I’ve ever seen here.  There are still many Field Sparrows, which, along with
the Savannahs and the regulars, made for a baffling mix this afternoon.
Steve and Teresa Graham came to see the Clay-colored this morning.  We got an
early glimpse, in the pond thicket, but then, after a “dry spell”, Teresa was
following the Field Sparrows and found the Clay-colored in a cherry tree at the
opposite (east) end of our property.  Soon after the Grahams left, I spotted it
in a redbud tree at the far west end of the property, about ~200 yards from
where Teresa saw it!  Then…about mid-afternoon, I found it back in the east-end
cherry where Teresa saw it.  I guess we hadn’t been seeing it because it’s been
using all of the local habitat, not just the pond thicket.
I watched the Shrike chasing Sparrows in the pond thicket, yesterday.  Today, I
watched a Mockingbird chasing the Shrike😊
I posted a short video of a Sapsucker that I found working in one of the
front-yard paper-birch trees, this morning.
