We counted 54 species this weekend, which is 9 more than we’ve ever counted, at 
this point in October.  A couple extra sets of eyes and ears, here to try to 
see the Clay-colored Sparrow, really helped.  Clay Bliznik and Frank Lyne 
tried, unsuccessfully, in yesterday’s heat, but Jamie Baker and I braved the 
rain squalls this afternoon and got some really good looks at it.   
Lots of highlights:
• Obviously the Clay-colored Sparrow, which takes our house-list to 153 
species.  This was a 7 Sparrow weekend.  
• Three Black-throated Green Warblers, dew-bathing in the dew-soaked cherry and 
maple tree leaves on Saturday morning, was a delight.  
• The Sharp-shinned, which flew past this morning, flapping directly into the 
stiff south wind, was the first we’ve counted here since the winter of 2016.  
It appeared to be in migration mode.  
• There were swarms of Swallows in the air yesterday.  They were mostly Tree, 
but there were Rough-winged, a Barn and Cliff among them.  They were still here 
today, though not so many.
