We counted 56 species at Schochoh on this absolutely lovely weekend.  Our
record count for this weekend was 57, last year.  We missed a Chickadee, of all
things, and a Kestrel which should normally be sure finds...the birds are
keeping me humble.
This weekend’s highlights included FOS Chestnut-sided Warbler and Eastern
Wood-Pewee, a psychedelic Summer Tanager (Flickr link follows) yesterday, and
the discovery of Field Sparrows that are carrying feed to a nest that is hidden
in the west-end of the pond thicket.  Field Sparrows are the 23rd species that
we have confirmed to have nested on our little bit of land.
Today, a  Hairy Woodpecker repeatedly drummed on the same limb in a walnut
tree, across the road from the house.  It left a number of times, but always
returned to that same limb that must have sounded just right :-).
This is the first weekend list since the second weekend in October that we have
not reported White-crowned Sparrows.  Our White-throated Sparrows were here
until mid-week, but the White-crowns disappeared overnight Sunday night.
