The last contract we were offered that included professional indemnity
required us to have cover for the job and 5 years after.

Hi Mark
It depends on the client. A university I occasionally contract to
directly will absolutely not use anybody who does not have professional
indemnity and public liability insurance. This obviously covers them,
and me, against charges of plagiarism etc. However, as I am only covered
for the period of the insurance, I haven't yet worked out what happens
if there is a problem after I let the insurance lapse.=20
I assume the big educational publishers are fiercely protective of their
material, but the nature of the work involves drawing on the writing of
academics authors. I'd be interested to know how other writers working
in the educational market deal with this.
