Historians routinely use BCE nowadays. The starting point is the same but some
stigma is removed by changing the name.

Oh my goodness - Political correctness gone mad!
Our calendar is based on "the year of our Lord" (albeit incorrectly) so I guess
we have to change our calendar now too - fancy that - another cause for the
politically correct to fight! Which calendar shall we take? Ah I know, one
that has already gone past 2012 - that would be a good idea. Any candidates?
And all the Queens were practicing Christians of one flavour or another! Guess
we have to rewrite history to pretend they were .........what? But then, if
Queens are not allowed to be Christian any more, should we be celebrating the
birthday of someone who is - oh horror of horrors - not only a fully fledged
church-going Christian but the titular head of the Church of England! Argggh -
take her to court and charge her with offences against political correctness!
What a tangled web...
Does anyone believe this stuff any more? Everyone I have ever talked to
believes political correctness is a sad and meaningless joke, so who is
perpetrating it and enforcing it? Does anyone know? Come on Granat - give us
the Jewish perspective, please, and make it ra(b)bi-d-d. Is the queen allowed
to be Christian, and are we allowed to keep counting years from the supposed
birth of Christ? Can we please get back to "the pursuit of frivolity and
licentiousness".
Amen,
Yours in Christ, Christine

Thanx for pointing it out Bob. I was asked to remove the 'of our Lord'
in case it offended anyone not Christian, so it's not there anymore.

I meant I'm seeking approval of those who helped provide the wording
:0) But yes, my workplace is a little government-like!
OK, here's the wording I'm proposing with thanx to Susy North and Peter
G Martin for much of it:
Here ye, hear ye!
Her Majesty the Queen hereby commands the presence of her loyal
subjects for an equestrian contention between certain of her Colonial servants
domiciled in portions of her kingdoms now known as Australia and certain other
outlanders not so fortunate as to be so permanently settled therein, the game
to be known by this her decree, as the Royal Polo ~ Australian vs. Expats.
Subjects should gather in the grounds of the South Oval as the clock
strikes midday on the eighth day of June in the two thousand and seventh year
of our lord. Subjects not attired with a hat and sunscreen shall be beheaded.
Faithful subjects will be rewarded with canapés and mocktails at
conclusion of the Royal Polo.
The Royal Polo is held in honour of the celebration of the anniversary
of her majesty's illustrious ancestors' birth, which has been an occasion, in
times past, to assemble for the purposes of gambolling and sundry other
nefarious endeavours, and for the pursuit of frivolity and licentiousness.
XXX commands acknowledgement of your attendance by the first day of
June in the two thousand and seventh year of our lord.
