Hi Andy.

Well, I've been messing about with my new computer all evening and to be honest, I'm very impressed. The only problem I've come up against is authorising my JAWS. I'll phone S&S tomorrow. The only change I've made is to change to high contrast number 2 as I'm very photo-phobic.

Thanks for the FS link. I'll check it out tomorrow sometime.

Andy, do you know if Auto-Sizer will run with VISTA? Auto-Sizer is a wee programme which maximises all windows I open in XP Home. I've still a little vision so the window taking up the whole screen is helpful.

Incidentally, I think I'll stick with the current settings as much as possible for the time-being. Perhaps I'll grow to like the difference.

Best wishes.

Andy.

Hi Andy -

I have found that Vista and JFW work just fine; you can make Vista look like XP by choosing 'Classic View' from the 'Control Panel', but I like it as it
is; yes, it looks a little different, but once JFW its installed, just
having a look around for things is an interesting exercise, and you can
probably decide from doing that if you like it, or prefer the old 'Classic
View.'

You might want to look at:

www.freedomscientific.com

where you can listen to or download a couple of tutorials for JFW with
Vista.

HTH -

Andy

Subject: [access-uk] VISTA ready to go

| Hi all.
|
| Took the big plunge today and purchased a HP VISTA desk-top PC. It's
| sitting in the kitchen in a couple of big boxes and I'm planning to put it
| together tomorrow with sighted assistance from my wife Pauline.
|
| I have a copy of JAWS Pro 8 to install, though I am hoping to upgrade
this
| week to JAWS Pro 9, which will probably arrive within ten days.
|
| So I've not done a thing to it thus far. I'm looking for some advice.
For
| example, is there anything that I should do to the settings prior to
| installing JAWS. For example, I have since Windows 95 used the High
| Contrast Number 2 display colour option as this is less harsh on my eyes.
| Should I wait until JAWS has been installed before attempting to change
| this?
|
| I have a document titled something like Setting up XP to work with JAWS.
I
| have used the recommendations in this document for several years, to
change
| settings to maximise JAWS. I was wondering if there was perhaps a similar
| document which would tell me how to enable JAWS to work at it's best in
| VISTA?
|
| So there is a couple of questions off the top of my head and perhaps there
| is a more crucial modification that I need to make but don't yet know of
it.
| Perhaps JAWS will work with VISTA out of the box, so to speak, but given
| past experience, I doubt it very much.
|
| Looking forward to lots of advice.
|
| Best wishes.
|
| Andy.
