Hi Carol.I was actually thinking of doing an Alt F4 to stop Norton then uninstall it. I'm really not sure exactly what to do as I don't want to mess up a brand new computer. I think I'll ask on the list to se if anyone has done it recently.
Best wishes. Andy.----- Original Message ----- From: "Carol Pearson" <carol.pearson@xxxxxxxxxxxx>

Andy,Remember what I said about Services. Sometimes there's more than one service to turn off before everything can be uninstalled.I remember that much from a while back now but, not using Vista and being uncertain about which services Norton actually uses to run, I can't advise you further.Cheers and all the best. -- CarolOn Tuesday, March 25, 2008 8:18 PM (UK time), Andy Logue at andy@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx said:Hi Carol. I agree. I've given it some thought, but to be honest, I hate Norton and like an old lover, I don't wish anything more to do with him/her. When I launch my VISTA computer it's there. I'm thinking if I do an Alt F4 whis will turn it off then uninstall it. I can then go for Nod 32. However, it's memory will still be there, just to remind me, just how much a bully \Norton really was! This is a task however where I'll need sighted assistance, but I'm pretty sure now that Norton is going to be killed. Best wishes. Messy but once it's out, it's out! I'd still do it! <Grins> -- Carol carol.pearson@xxxxxxxxxxxx n Monday, March 24, 2008 10:41 PM (UK time), Andy Logue at andy@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx said:Hi Jackie. I'm messing about with my new computer and like it a lot. Pauline is also very impressed. It's so quiet and my 20 inch display is lovely. I don't thin I'll change to Classic View just yet as it really looks like something new and interesting. I was offered Norton at PC World yesterday and I declined it saying that I use NOD 32. My NOD 32 runs out in a week or so and I was intending to purchase it for another year. However, to my horror, I discovered this evening that Norton is already installed. Not sure now whither to just stick with it as it's terribly difficult to get rid of it from a system. I think you need a special tool. I've not yet installed my Soundblaster so hopefully, later this week, I'll be blasting out my music. I'm thus far , so pleased that I opted for VISTA. Best wishes. When I got my laptop last summer, I don't recall having to do anything exciting to get JAWS to work. When version 9.0 came out, I upgraded from version 8, and it's been fine. You will find some security differences in Vista from XP, but JAWS does speak with everything I've come across, so just go for it and enjoy!! (smile.) Better than an Easter egg eh? Took the big plunge today and purchased a HP VISTA desk-top PC. It's sitting in the kitchen in a couple of big boxes and I'm planning to put it together tomorrow with sighted assistance from my wife Pauline. I have a copy of JAWS Pro 8 to install, though I am hoping to upgrade this week to JAWS Pro 9, which will probably arrive within ten days. So I've not done a thing to it thus far. I'm looking for some advice. For example, is there anything that I should do to the settings prior to installing JAWS. For example, I have since Windows 95 used the High Contrast Number 2 display colour option as this is less harsh on my eyes. Should I wait until JAWS has been installed before attempting to change this? I have a document titled something like Setting up XP to work with JAWS. I have used the recommendations in this document for several years, to change settings to maximise JAWS. I was wondering if there was perhaps a similar document which would tell me how to enable JAWS to work at it's best in VISTA? So there is a couple of questions off the top of my head and perhaps there is a more crucial modification that I need to make but don't yet know of it. Perhaps JAWS will work with VISTA outof the box, so to speak, but given past experience, I doubt it very much.Looking forward to lots of advice. Best wishes.
