Hi Andy, Go to All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Windows Easy Transfer. There are various options available for transferring data, and various methods for actually connecting the two devices. There's an FAQ about this in Vista's Help system. Just search for "Easy Transfer". I did go the special USB East Transfer cable route myself when I needed to copy stuff from my wife's old laptop to the new one. It did take a while, but the fact that my wife didn't kill me, suggests that she got all her files and data across. Thanks very much for your notes. I'm sure they will help me get started with VISTA. I have only been messing about this evening but found it so easy to register, to set up my mail account and to listen to my first sample music via the WMP. I'm so impressed. Keep thinking though that something is going to go wrong at any moment, as usual. But, touch wood, everything is so much easier to set up. Do you know if I can export my addressbook from Outlook Express into VISTA. Also, my folders of files in OE, can I get them over to my VISTA machine? Thanks again very much for your support. I really don't think you will have much of aproblem. When Ipurchased my Dell Vista machine Jaws 9 worked fine. Theonly differencebetween XP seems to be the menu listing order and theterminology. Forexample you will not see the icon named display in controlpannel. Therewill be an icon called eas of use instead. I'm stilltrying to get togrips with Vista. Just another thing you should note. Whenever youdownload a file from the internet, The file will bedownloaded in thedownload folder which can be found under your profilename. For examplebring up the start menu and arrow down a couple until youhear welcomecentre and arrow right in to a sub list which has iconssuch as controlpannel, computer, connect to, music, documents and yourname. When youselect your name you will see a hoast of folders includingthe downloadfolder. I think I've given you a mini tuturial on accessing yourhome folders aswell. Took the big plunge today and purchased a HP VISTAdesk-top PC. It'ssitting in the kitchen in a couple of big boxes and I'mplanning to putit together tomorrow with sighted assistance from my wifePauline.I have a copy of JAWS Pro 8 to install, though I amhoping to upgradethis week to JAWS Pro 9, which will probably arrivewithin ten days.So I've not done a thing to it thus far. I'm looking forsome advice. For example, is there anything that I should do to thesettings prior toinstalling JAWS. For example, I have since Windows 95used the HighContrast Number 2 display colour option as this is lessharsh on my eyes.Should I wait until JAWS has been installed beforeattempting to changethis? I have a document titled something like Setting up XP towork with JAWS.I have used the recommendations in this document forseveral years, tochange settings to maximise JAWS. I was wondering ifthere was perhaps asimilar document which would tell me how to enable JAWSto work at it'sbest in VISTA? So there is a couple of questions off the top of my headand perhapsthere is a more crucial modification that I need to makebut don't yetknow of it. Perhaps JAWS will work with VISTA out of thebox, so tospeak, but given past experience, I doubt it very much. Looking forward to lots of advice. Best wishes.
