Ibrahm, could you drop me a copy of those guidelines as well if poss? My drive is working fine but I may upgrade in the near future. Also, with the NC10, I know you can get the other 1 GB USB module to plug in for RAM but will it take a 2 or 4 GB block internally? As I've already mentioned, you don't have to do anything so drastic and potentially expensive as claim on your household policy; I believe your machine can easily be repaired with a lot less hassle and expense not to mention inconvenience. Firstly, please try the suggestion of reformatting and reinstalling windows using the disks you got with your machine. These will reinstall windows and the software and drivers that came with your netbook to pretty much the state it came in from the factory. During the installation of windows, the disk will be reformatted and any bad sectors identified. If the disk refuses to reformat correctly or damage to the drive means a lot of it is unusable after a full system reinstall, its time to replace the hard drive which although difficult is not impossible. You could use this opportunity to buy a new and higher capacity hard drive, you can expect to pay around £35 for a new 160GB 2.5 inch SATA drive on EBay though higher capacity drives are available and maybe very competitively priced. In either case, once you have your new hard drive installed and I can send you instructions on how to do this, you will be able to reinstall windows using the disks as explained above. All the best, Ibrahim Gucukoglu. ----- Original Message ----- From: Saqib To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, June 19, 2009 9:17 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: NC10 I do have house hold insurance but the trouble is that I only took the insurance out a couple of months ago and I don't feel comfortable making a claim so soon. The netbook just goes through a loop and restarts. Sounds like a hard disk problem to me. I took it into PC World today and they said that there is nothing that they could do as I'm not covered for accidental damage. The other thing is that they would of charged £30 to recover the machine. If there is damage to the disk then there is no way of recovering the hard disk. So I decided not to risk throwing £30 away. Sorry the machine is no more use than a paper weight now. I have heard that it might be possible to use in Safe Mode with a USB headset. My NC10 netbook is playing up for some reason. Every time I try to boot it up it brings up an list of options. They are options relating to safe mode or starting Windows as normal. When I select any of these options the process just goes around in a loop and the netbook just reboots and I get the same screen with those options. I selected start windows as normal and when the XP logo appears on the screen the machine will then reboot its self. The machine did take a fall yesterday as it fell off my sofa arm and this problem accured. I went to shut it down and got up and nearly tripped over the wire and the netbook flew off the arm of the sofa. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am using the Free version of SPAMfighter.
