Hello All,
Is there a better communication media/social forum that can ease communication? How about WhatsApp? Microsoft Teams? My team and I are actively working on Common Voice and we have made some progress (currently at 8% of accurate translations I believe), but sometimes we need immediate help and emails are not the best for this.
Any leads? You can give suggestions.
Thanks

tushauriane kuanza wapi!

picha ilikuwa "tamasha ya mtu mmoja" (one-man-show).
Pale tunapokuta istilahi zisizosanifishwa hali halisi,
kwenu yuko mtu aliye hodari kutunga filamu fupi anaweza
inayofaa (najua si wakati nzuri ilhali wengi watakuwa
wamesafiri...)
Ukiwa na mawazo mengine - karibu sana kuchangia!

Hello Kevin,
You are officially the community manager for
Swahili in Pontoon. You can "approve" the
suggestions you made in the system. The Pontoon
user guide will have the details. And I am here
to help in case it doesn't make any sense.
I hope more of you will be onboard to Pontoon. I
would like to make a mention of the "revived"
Swahili community in our Localization Monthly
Report.
Thank you,

Hello all,
Thank you Peiying for the clarification.
Three days ago, Benson asked some questions
and I think you have addressed them well.
Now on his questions (b) and (c), my
responses are as below.
b) Is a common African or East African
language mailing list of interest? This
would be low volume, main aim is to identify
similar projects where collaboration can be
helpful. A wiki could also serve a similar
purpose.
* This would be of interest and as you
have said "low volume," it can be of
future help once our main objectives
are met. Benson you can go ahead and
create the list.
c) Kevin - will you also serve as manager
role for other Swahili projects in Pontoon?
If not, might this role suite someone from
Swahilinux, since browser language support
would be helpful.
* Peiying has addressed the manager role,
my team and I are for now interested in
Common Voice. Anyone from Swahilinux who
can help us in pushing this project,
among other projects of their interest
can volunteer to be Manager, my
colleague Dan and I can serve as a
translators in that case since we can
always get contributors.
* In case the manager role for someone in
Swahilinux is going to be too demanding,
I can therefore be manager so that we
still meet our objectives.
I will let Swahilinux team brief us on what
they have decided based on my concerns above.
Thanks

Hello All,
I am so glad to see all these exchanges.
Here is what I can answer or comment on:
- If one is to become a manager, Pontoon
only allows the setting as one for all
projects, - we call it Swahili community
manager, not just for one project.
- Both manager role and translator role
can review and approve a contributor's
work. So we need translator role as
well. Manager doesn't have to do actual
translation but translator's main
function is to translate and review
other's work. Translator must be able to
produce quality work without a peer
review, although peer review is highly
recommended.
- There are lots of projects within
Pontoon. Beyond Common Voice, if you are
interested in any other products, let me
know what they are, so I can help you
prioritize. Some have long release lead
time. I advise you focus on a few so you
can see the release of a product versus
spreading your effort too thin.
In case it got lost in previous
communication threads, here are a few
things worth going over:
Pontoon user guide:
https://mozilla-l10n.github.io/localizer-documentation/tools/pontoon/ui.html.
Roles and Responsibilities:
https://mozilla-l10n.github.io/localizer-documentation/community/l10n_community_roles.html
How to give feedback:
https://mozilla-l10n.github.io/localizer-documentation/community/l10n_feedback.html
Given there are a few of you now, it is
worth thinking of developing a glossary
list so the expressions are consistent
between contributors. If there are
established glossary (terminology) list
from Microsoft or Apple, feel free to
borrow them. No need to reinvent the wheel.
As for different flavors of Swahili, try
to stick to one. For Common Voice, you
will notice that we have one version of
English, French, German, Spanish and
Portuguese... There are accent,
different expressions for the same
meaning etc, but all of them have to
come under one language umbrella.
For now, let me know, after reading the
above about what a manager is for a
community, let me know who you would
like to nominate as the manager. I will
enable that person, and let that person
decide the roles of the rest and new
ones to join. The manager can set the
roles of the rest of the communities.
You can have two managers if needed.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Cheers,
Peiying

Many communities use

Also, it is really
important to "elect" a

otherwise, all your work
