Archiving our postings is a 'feature' of the listserv and is in website format. I looked and do not see how to turn that off, but if that is desired, I can ask. But anytime you post something in to a listserv, you have lost privacy of where it will be sent.... Now I'm writing some as well. I was surprised that no one responded to Cheryl's note about being "Googled." Recently, I have been involved with a search for my high school classmates and have used Google and other sources on the internet as a tool. The phrase, "you can run, but you can't hide" really says it all. Not only have I found a huge number of classmates but I have also turned up some surprising and potentially embarrassing material. I was not aware that our list-serve was so easily accessed by a search engine. I would never have listed members had I known that the information would be posted for all of the world to see. Even now I feel constrained by what I am writing; I do not feel easy telling the world when we come and go, but there are times I would like to be able to tell our membership about our plans if they affect our ability to participate or not in a YSHavurah activity. I do not have a whole lot of expertise on list-serves but I would like for our group to use one which is not accessible to anyone but the subscribers. Is this possible? Dan, can you give us your "take" on this? Several friends were talking about getting "Googled", which essentially means looking up yourself or someone else using the Google search engine. When I "googled" myself for fun, I was shocked to find that in addition to the expected vita and picture, etc. that is posted through Ohio State University, there were two Havurah listserv postings as well. Both were directly off this listserv and were (of course) of a strictly private nature. Since I assume that some of us would not be comfortable with our private listserv emails going out to the world, I thought I'd let you know and see what (if anything) we can do about it--or if anyone else is concerned. Thanks, Cheryl
