There has been a change only to the random number generator.
I'm off to work in a few minutes, but if you get a chance try the following and
let me know if it makes a difference.
In /src/Synth/Adnote.cpp find lines 127-138
Re-enable line 138 and chck you are getting a good random distribution.
If not, also re-enable line 137, and see if that improves the situation.
My worry is that Ubuntu is doing something weird with integer arithmetic, and
our new generator *requires* 32 bit values.
