I followed this discussion (passively), but now I got interested to see if
I can hear any differences between these versions, so I did the following:
I built a "yoshimi_old" binary based on commit d34d89 - this is one before
the first change that Hermann found to modify the sound - and "yoshimi_new"
which is based on current head of master branch (commit 9c44ec185).
I started them both in parallel, and used the built-in Virtual keyboard to
trigger the same sounds on both versions. I went through a couple of the
standard sounds from "Arpeggios", "Noises" etc, but could not really spot
Then I found three specific patches in the "chip" bank:
7. Chip Hop1
8. Chip Hop2
9. Chip Strange 1
which sound completely different in the two versions. Please try for yourself
let us know.
The first 2 are completely overdriven in the "_old" binary, but sound reasonable
in the new one ("tamed"?). The third patch sounds very different in the _old
and also has a much higher output level than the one in the _new binary.
Now, I am not sure if this leads to the same problem as what Hermann observed -
for now it's just a random finding, but I thought it might be good to provide
this info here.
