Good morning,
Attached is the TPD Park Safety Team information. The Park Safety Community
Service Officers (CSOs) work with the Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) and offer
resources to hour homeless (see attached flyer). For issues in the park
with the homeless, please contact them at TPDParkSafety@xxxxxxxxxxxx
<mailto:TPDParkSafety@xxxxxxxxxxxx> or call (520) 791-2639. I will, also,
update our Sector book so officers will know to spend some time in the area
(opening and closing).
Respectfully,
Community Resource, CSO Erin Peters #101348

There are signs posted that clearly state that they are not to wash
themselves or their clothes. So the rule is already on the books, it just
needs enforcing. Earlier in the week I also found huge cardboard boxes and
2 or 3 large plastic cups half full that smelled of booze right outside the
splash pad and jungle gym, broken glass, and other trash.
Thanks all for your help, I poked around on the park websites for a number
to call about park rule violations and couldn't find one.

Hi all. I am definitely on board with no showering at the splash pad and
also onboard with supporting our homeless, not criminalizing them. I am
fairly new to Tucson so not sure of this answer but if there are programs
where homeless folks can go to get a shower, that would be a great thing to
post at the park.

Sure let's criminalize homelessness and make sure they aren't showered so we
know who to hate on.

Cindy,
I've looped in our TPD community officer, Erin Peters and liaison Lt Belinda
Morales. I hope with their help, we might see a little more
supervision/patrol at the splash pad in Catalina Park, especially around
opening and closing and after hours.
I will figure out who at Parks and Rec is responsible for making sure the
splash pad and bathrooms are being locked at night and opened in the
morning. We now have a sign posted about the park being closed at dark and
not open until sunrise. The splash pad has more limited hours. TPD can
enforce these hours as well, to help reduce misuse.
I'm sorry your daughter and grandson were scared off this morning.

My daughter and my 3 1/2 year old son went to the park this morning and
left right away after they saw someone showering in the splash pad.
She didn't want me to report it, but after all, they should obey the
rules, right? Based on the trash I've been seeing in the morning ( notably
cardboard boxes) I think we need to up enforcement. Thoughts?
Cindy.
