Right turn on red is problematic more so at a 4 way intersection. This is
because the driver tends to be looking left as they are turning right which
means they may or may not see a pedestrian that wants to cross in front of them.
I’ve lived all of these situations both as a former driver and as a blind
pedestrian.

Subject: [wsmac] Re: Hannaford/WCD Crosswalk Request
When you say right turn on red Dennis, you mean the lane heading INTO the
parking lot? In my opinion as long as the people are vigilant and visible in
the crosswalk, I would say leave it as is. When I'm in a crosswalk on a road
with more then one lane, I ALWAYS slow down and wait before continuing so that
everyone sees me. Again, just my opinion. I'd like to see red lights in all
directions when crosswalk signal is deployed; I always panic when traffic's
coming out of Hannaford Drive and turning left.

Re: Advocacy for Hannaford Crosswalk. Should we include
No Right Turn on Red ? Or would that cause more problems.
If the Winter continues like the past two weeks, we do not want to have any
Pedestrians being caught in a bad situation at that Intersection, most
certainly, a young Father or Mother with children crossing WCD, with groceries.

Eric and Ethan,
Hopefully you've noticed some recent discussion on the list about the
pedestrian signal at the crosswalk on William Clarke Drive at Hannaford Drive.
Are you able to give us any initial indication of the effort and process
involved if we wanted to advocate for that to be changed to the type where
vehicular traffic is stopped in all directions while the pedestrian walk signal
is on? (I forget the official name of that.) Thanks for any advice you can give
us.
