Yesterday , Dec 31, (12:18PM) we saw a flock of about 20 white-winged
crossbills on Champeau Rd. , east off of Bay Settlement Rd. There is a long row
of pines on the north side of Champeau and about midway they were feeding on
pine cones at the very top of about 3 pines. It was a mix of red males and the
more yellow females. Both have the bright white wing bars. We thought there
were about 8 but when a car drove by and spooked them, at least 20 flew across
the road into the opposite field. Reported on ebird.
