I looked out my window and saw a large bird land in a tree about 15 feet from my office window - a densely wooded area that's good for warblers. I assumed it was a red-tailed hawk, but something seemed off. So my next thought was a young turkey as it stretched out its neck. Finally, with binoculars in hand to get a good look it turned out to be an American Bittern! This is in a wooded area, no marsh within miles, but Lake Michigan is nearby. Hahaha, much easier to spot this guy when he's 20 feet up in a tree just outside a window rather than hiding in reeds. Seriously weird and a yard bird I never expected to get. I'm still laughing about this one. Chris Petherick Fox Point, Milwaukee County #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
