I have two pictures of it hidden behind some leaves...I continue to laugh at this one...hahaha, an Am. Bittern in my yard. If anyone wants to see the pictures I can send them. -----Original Message----- From: wisbirdn-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:wisbirdn-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Chris Petherick Sent: Wednesday, August 15, 2012 1:13 PM To: 'WISBIRD Listserv' Subject: [wisb] Crazy Yard Bird I looked out my window and saw a large bird land in a tree about 15 feet from my office window - a densely wooded area that's good for warblers. I assumed it was a red-tailed hawk, but something seemed off. So my next thought was a young turkey as it stretched out its neck. Finally, with binoculars in hand to get a good look it turned out to be an American Bittern! This is in a wooded area, no marsh within miles, but Lake Michigan is nearby. Hahaha, much easier to spot this guy when he's 20 feet up in a tree just outside a window rather than hiding in reeds. Seriously weird and a yard bird I never expected to get. I'm still laughing about this one. Chris Petherick Fox Point, Milwaukee County #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
