I can’t wait! Looks like it will be another week or so for me, Thank you for
sending that link. I’m excited to hopefully witness the pair that nested in a
branch above our driveway to come and disassemble their nest when they are
ready to build a new one. I’m not sure I’ll be lucky enough ever again to have
an oriole family build a nest in plain sight like last year. It’s truly was a
blessing to witness the nest building all the way to watching every one of the
four babies take their first flight. (it happened one at a time and took two
days, with each one spending a lot of time when it was their time to go,
sitting on a branch above the nest before braving their maiden flight). I sure
learned a lot about Orioles last year, that’s for sure. It seemed like their
favorite food to feed their young were green inch worms and spiders, especially
spiders with egg sacs.  One day I’ll organize the photos into a series of
photos of their life :)

The vanguard of orioles, rose-breasted grosbeaks, and ruby-throated

Wisconsin, right on an average schedule. Of course, numbers in this initial
wave are relatively low so many observers have yet to detect one,
especially with hummingbirds, which often lag behind the former two species
by a few days . But if you're interested in attracting these species to
your yard, now is the time to put out the sunflower seeds, jelly, orange
halves, nectar, etc. Birders up north like me have another week to wait
barring an extended stretch of southerly winds before then.
You can track the migration progress of all species on eBird. Here's the
map for Baltimore Oriole. Simply type in a new species at upper left to
explore your favorite birds.

Slowly and without panic, I have been storing up on grape jelly for
weeks now. I haven’t been to the store, but my friends who have been have
all been instructed to bring me grape jelly. I have 14 jars of store bought
and more of my own
homemade jelly ready for the new arrivals. Can’t wait for that first
morning when I look out and see a Rose-breasted Grosbeak on my feeder and
walk out and hear the Oriole singing, asking me to fill my jelly feeders. I
am so ready! I sort of expect it early
this year. Bring on the migration!
