Slowly and without panic, I have been storing up on grape jelly for weeks now.
I haven’t been to the store, but my friends who have been have all been
instructed to bring me grape jelly. I have 14 jars of store bought and more of
my own homemade jelly ready for the new arrivals. Can’t wait for that first
morning when I look out and see a Rose-breasted Grosbeak on my feeder and walk
out and hear the Oriole singing, asking me to fill my jelly feeders. I am so
ready! I sort of expect it early this year. Bring on the migration!

I’ve not been out to the grocery store in weeks. I guess I need to get out
there: our first (Baltimore) oriole showed up this morning here in south
central Iowa County. It was content with the peanut feeders, but I did
immediately put up a nectar feeder.

items, I came upon a stack of cases of grape jelly, 2 lb jars, store brand.
As I was walking through our local Piggly Wiggly today picking up a few
I immediately though Orioles! They always show up in our yard, between
about this date and May 2nd, peering into empty jelly feeders. I have to
compliment “The Pig” for either a manager or their computer knowing this
fact and being prepared. There was another stack in another isle. I bought
2 jars to get started.
