Minutes ago we had a male orchard oriole on our deck, feeding on the seeds
on the ground. Just picked up fruit today as a neighbor said they saw a
Baltimore oriole. I was a bit skeptical, but now this! Seems early for as
cold as it has been here near Lake Michigan. Most years, I notice our first
orioles and grosbeaks between May 3-7.

As I was walking through our local Piggly Wiggly today picking up a few
items, I came upon a stack of cases of grape jelly, 2 lb jars, store brand.
I immediately though Orioles! They always show up in our yard, between
about this date and May 2nd, peering into empty jelly feeders. I have to
compliment âThe Pigâ for either a manager or their computer knowing this
fact and being prepared. There was another stack in another isle. I bought
2 jars to get started.
