that was my first answer to him. He turned system restore off. even
though he has 40GB of disk space and a most of it is free.

He has decided to reformat it and start over fresh.

However, this has inspired me to make disinfecting and cleaning home
computers easier for my users. I am always getting asked about it. I
just emailed you the first results of that. I think you will like it.

He should be able to go back to a system restore point and be ok.

My brother called me a little while ago. His home computer was
acting up so he ran ad-aware and scanned for a virus etc. Ad-Aware
cleaned a bunch of junk off of there and so did the antivirus. He is
running XP Pro.

Now, every time he selects an item in the start menu or double
clicks an icon, the background goes away, the icons disappear, it hangs
up, then they all come back but the program never runs.

To me, that says that explorer.exe is crashing. But I am not
sure why. Can anyone think of a virus that could cause that behavior.
It sounds virus like to me.

        Greg
