Nah - I've eliminated the new drive so it's not that. The SCSI controller is raid capable, but no raid in use. The primary drive is SCSI and the system has been extremely stable for over two years - I can see the issue just copying between two partitions on that SCSI disk. I even turned off hyperthreading (Rick Mack keeps tells me it can cause stability problems but I've never seen that to be the cause) but that didn't help. I did take a zipped copy via DVD to another system and unzipped it there without issue so it isn't a "general OS issue" (although the other system is 2003 SP1). I'm running the full suite of hardware diags tonight and I'll try out a new bios in the morning. I was just hoping for someone to say "I saw that once". tim -----Original Message----- From: windows2000-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:windows2000-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Dogers Sent: Sunday, June 05, 2005 6:33 PM To: windows2000@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [windows2000] Re: System hang copying GB files (2003) On 05/06/05, Tim Mangan <tmangan@xxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > The symptoms are that after about 40 seconds the user interface hangs, > although copying continues. Not seen it before, but I can't believe its a drive problem, those tend to completely kill windows if theyre no good :) Could it be a driver problem? Are these disks RAID'ed? SCSI controller? SATA?
