I was joking about dropping it out of the window and trying again ;)

I haven't tried that yet, but I will.  I will let you know how it goes.

It is already a slave drive, always has been.

Don't do that, you might break something serious.  Have you tried the 
refridgerator trick yet or putting it in as a slave drive on a good machine? 
  I've used both of those to good effect.
